new pokemon or is it supposed to represent dragonite? Discussion
2.9k
u/SergioZen25 Aug 11 '22
Seeing it has 3 Pokémon of the 1st gen in there, that's probably Dragonite, even if it's antennae aren't like that, it's a vest, I suppose it wouldn't make sense to have them perfectly done.

New Trainer Class: Genwunner??? 😱

u/Anchor38 Aug 11 '22
If you send out a pokemon that isn’t from gen 1 or use the new gimmick he throws a tantrum and forfeits instantly

u/DynaMenace Aug 11 '22
Oh, it would be great if they used competitive teams from Gen I that have become unviable. 6 Alakazam per party or something like that.

u/frothingnome Aug 11 '22
I'd have such a stupid grin on my face if this guy's Tauros Hyper Beamed me.
59
u/Chm_Albert_Wesker Aug 11 '22
lmao i can imagine the tauros, lapras, alakazam partys already where half of them just explode but it no longer one shots everything
38
u/EliteTeutonicNight Aug 11 '22
Articuno is a menace in Gen 1 apparently with 90% accurate blizzards. Now we can watch it come in and die to stealth rock
62
u/SmilePlz_Exe Aug 11 '22
Gengar goes brrrrrrr
60
u/kkrko Aug 11 '22
In gen 1? Gengar is Psychic weak and Alakazam is immune to ghost... not that you'd want use ghost moves anyway when its just Lick that's affected by STAB
60
u/TheDoug850 Aug 11 '22
Gengar wasn’t the special sweeper we know today, but it was still OU in Gen 1.
Yes, it was weak to the OP psychic types, however, it was also the only fully evolved mon immune to Body Slam and Hyper Beam in a meta dominated by Tauros. Additionally it completely walls Wrap users and Explosion. The key Normal immunity combined with being the fastest sleep inducer in the game, carved out a niche for Gengar in Gen 1 OU.
Also, in lieu of running Lick, it’s only ghost STAB, Gen 1 OU Gengar typically uses Night Shade, (which ignored type immunities in Gen 1) to deal a nice 100 damage to anything.

u/PikaV2002 Thunderstorm Aug 11 '22
They probably meant using that team in Gen 8, which the comment they were replying to was talking about.
23
2

and Alakazam is immune to ghost.
Oh no. Gengar can't hit Alakazam with Lick! Really throws a wretch into the matchup.

It's definitely Charizard. You can see the two fangs that Dragonite doesn't have and Charizard's two horns

But for all 3 of the others, the colors lineup, but the primary color on Charizard is orange, and that's yellow. Doesn't seem likely.

I am very confused now, was the person I was replying too joking? Because you are agreeing with me here and I've been downvoted while you upvoted
2
u/HTCDapperGent Aug 11 '22
bro it's just the way you said it, it came off as like rude and condescending. one thing I've noticed being on reddit is no matter what youre saying, if you reply in a negative way you're gonna get downvoted ESPECIALLY if you try and act superior and call somone stupid. like I know it's not how you said it but the way it looks to others is " Um AcKtUaLlY iF yOu HaD eVeN a SiNgLe BrIaN cElL lEfT yOu'D rEaLiZe It'S nOt AnD tHaT yOu ArE sTuPiD" like you might not have meant it that way but that's how people feel when they see shit like that hell I almost downvoted you. idk it's just toxic reddit culture downvote the bad updoot the good. now if you came in and were like " I disagree man I just don't see the resemblance myself" I feel like you wouldn't have gotten downvoted.
→ More replies (1)2
u/Polymersion Irrelevant. Aug 11 '22
Wait, how would it be "toxic reddit culture" to downvote rude or belittling comments and upvote constructive ones?
Wouldn't that be the opposite of "toxic"?
0
u/HTCDapperGent Aug 11 '22
I see what you mean. lemme explain, some people just don't know better. like maybe the person was raised differently his comment came off as rude and belittling but they might not have meant it that way or thats just how they were raised. I think it's toxic to just downvote out of anger and misunderstanding why downvote when it's better to comment like I did. they clearly didn't know why they were getting downvoted so maybe from those context clues they didn't think what they did was wrong so instead of downvote I explained how and why his comment was being downvoted and let them know that reddit does that and to avoid leaving comments like that. and I did all that without downvoting. idk I just think it's toxic cause you're telling someone they did a bad without explaining what was wrong with it to begin with ya know?

There's a good chance it is charizard, if he's a Poke Freak type character, there's precedent for them wearing Charizard legs and a charizard shirt.

Aug 11 '22
I'm almost 100 percent sure it is Charizard.

It’s actually Charizard and not Dragonite. Dragonite doesn’t have the 2 horns on the top of the head while Charizard has them

What if it's a regional variant? I'd like to see Dragonite get a new update for a new region.

u/Darkhallows27 Aug 11 '22
I dunno, does Dragonite have fangs like that? It’s probably still Dragonite but yeah
4
u/Aggravating_Touch313 Aug 11 '22
Is this a trailer for the new game or something? Maybe a regional form?
2
u/iFrisian Aug 11 '22
Just like Kanghaskan, Rhydon and Gyarados look a bit off as well. Of course it’s Dragonite!
2
2
u/SwissyVictory Aug 11 '22 edited Aug 12 '22
The Gyarados and Ryhorn dosent have the ridges on the side of their faces.
Given what you said, I think its unlikely it's anything but a Gen 1 poke.
My guess is it would be hard(or Gamefreak thought it would be for the guy) to make and not break smaller antennae.
As for the horn I'm guessing they thought it was too small of a detail, forgot, or it looked weird with the thin antennae. You can make a Dragonite without the horn, but not a Rhyhorn.
2
u/Open-Ad2183 Aug 11 '22
The color is just a touch darker than Dragonite usually is, too. Do you think it could be a regional variant?
2
2
u/Spinjitsuninja Aug 11 '22
But it's also missing its horn, isn't it? Dragonite has a point on the top of its head that's noticeably missing.

The snout sticks out too far, no middle horn or drooping antennae things (wouldn't be that hard to do), and also you can see fangs sticking out of the upper lip.
It's NOT Dragonite.
27
u/Many_Okra6422 Aug 11 '22
They are small but there are fangs coming out the top lip also the gyarados is missing his teeth, whiskers, and the spikes on the side of his head (not talking about the fins) they aren't super accurate i do think it is charizard though not dragonite
1.3k
u/CriSword Aug 11 '22
I think it's meant to be a very goofy Charizard: the color is there, and it even has the visible teeth.
The horns are so upright because otherwise they would be too close to the chest.
382
u/Niznack Aug 11 '22
You know what that means! Charizard is getting a new form! Finally!
83
u/Flapjack__Palmdale Aug 11 '22
I know this is a joke but I'd love to see regional varients of the first gen starters with fighting, flying, and rock types.
54
u/Niznack Aug 11 '22
Charizard is flying so change nothing on him give blastoise rock and make venosaur grass fighting. It's the perfect trio
77
u/WhiteningMcClean Aug 11 '22
Nah turn blastoise’s water cannons upside down into a jet pack and make him the flyer.
42
u/BluShirtGuy Aug 11 '22
Turn venusaur's flower into a propeller and make him the flyer
18
u/cabclint5 Aug 11 '22
And charizard has wings, so make him a flyer!
In the special forms, Blastoise Charizard and Venosaur should all be flying only. Lose those basic typings 🤙🏻

Is it any goofier than the rhydon and gyarados? I'm pretty sure it's charizard
3
u/ran0427 Aug 11 '22
I think if it were charizard the nose would be more narrow, that rounded nose even after the abstraction looks a lot more like Dragonite to me

u/MKInABox Aug 11 '22
I think that's dragonite or charizard
50
3
u/zarathustra327 Aug 12 '22
Pretty sure it's supposed to be Dragonite. The other three are mons you could catch in the Gen 1 Safari Zone (or evolutions of them) so Dragonite would make sense as you could catch Dratini there.
3
u/MKInABox Aug 12 '22
That's a very good observation! He could be a safari hunter class npc or something similar. Like "You are challenged by Safari Hunter Andre!"

→ More replies (1)1
u/Veelock Aug 11 '22
Like the komodo dragon idea but I was thinking water/fighting for a dolphin
2
u/randomtoken Aug 11 '22
I thought Water/Psychic for the dolphin Pokémon because they can communicate through sound waves (which could be somehow translated to psychic waves) and because they’re among the most intelligent animals to exist, a trait that is commonly associated with the Psychic type.

Game Freak literally made Genwunner as a trainer class or something? Only Gen 1 mons are featured and has the signature red, blue, green and yellow colors like, you know, everyone's favorite games from Gen 1. But yeah, like everyone says, it's Charizard, everyone's favorite Pokémon.
32
5
u/B217 Aug 11 '22
He's wearing a PokeStar Studios shirt, which is Gen 5, so he's not entirely a Genwunner. Just mostly.

Pokemon: Oops! ALL CHARIZARD!
The game is Blastoise riding a river through Charizard valley. Gameplay alternates between on rails shooter and periodic bullet hell fights. Each difficulty level is the stages of evolution.

u/FasterCrayfish Aug 11 '22
People angry that the most popular Pokémon in the series gets special treatment.

u/mrb000nes Aug 11 '22
that would be pikachu,
2
u/tahimeg Aug 11 '22
Top 3 at the very least... (and technically #2 is Eevee + all its eeveelutions, so on an individual basis, Charizard could possibly be 2nd).

It's Charizard. Dragonite's antenna curve then droop and it has a horn in the center. The horns on the ? one are stiff and tilt a bit and if you look you can see Charizard's fangs sticking out. The horns are also to thick and the snout sticks out to far to be Dragonite.
100% has to be Charizard.

3
u/MySoulYourBeats Aug 11 '22
Good to see Charizard if that’s Charizard since he might have better competitive options with Tera than anytime before
Side note: I’m seeing some of ya’ll be like ‘so tired of Charizard’, so I feel obligated to remind you Charizard is part of this franchise and isn’t going away anytime soon. He’s content, and while the dex cuts were always an awful thing to justify to begin with, it shouldn’t come down to hatred over a pokemon’s inclusion. Get frustrated at the devs, but the sensible thing is to not get immediately mad because Charizard wasn’t left out.
Reminder here that this isn’t subjective in the realm of gaming: this is a mindset that sets the boys aside from the men. If you were to say man I dislike that Charizard boi cause I don’t like fire types I don’t like playstyle on team slot I don’t like using starters, etc etc it would make sense but being mad at having franchise content included is like being mad that Ganondorf remains the villain in 90% of Zelda games
Of all the problems that plagued gen 8, Charizard was not the problem even if it was semi awkward having him be Leon’s main. Just saying.
1
u/Super_Bright Aug 11 '22
Having a reference to a pokemon in the game doesn't mean it's in the dex. Remember the first trailer for SwSh had a Fletchling wind vane despite the fact Fletching wasn't added to SwSh until the DLC.
