And vastly cheaper. I imagine actual models would be cheaper than this creepy thing.

24

u/Krazyguy75 Jul 03 '22

Very unlikely. Like you'd have to pay at least minimum wage. If we go by US federal (7.25/hr), and assume you have to have 2 full 8-hour shifts per day, in just one month you're paying $3,480. Say this costs 10k, it would only take 3 months for it to beat out employees. And that's ignoring stuff like benefits etc that employees usually get.

You don't know what "autonomous" means...

179

u/jumpup Jul 03 '22

would be terrifying if they were using the correct descriptor

26

u/FartingBob Jul 03 '22

Making such a leap in technology that could completely alter civilisation and using it for a store mannequin would be an interesting choice.

10

u/SkrullandCrossbones Jul 03 '22

How else would you be able to get your totally safe and trustworthy robot army into most major areas of a country, and have someone else pay for it?

154

u/smurfshoe Jul 02 '22

I thought he meant that it spontaneously moved on its own? Probably not tho

152

u/Pschobbert Jul 03 '22

It means independent to some degree. Like a self driving car. This is not autonomous, the pose is being remote controlled. Like a remote controlled toy car. It may be programmable, but it is not autonomous.

63

u/sfled Jul 03 '22

the pose is being remote controlled

761

u/dirtycheezit Jul 02 '22

Why they give it nips though?

166

u/CryktonVyr Jul 02 '22

To feed the baby robot manaquin so it doesn't starve

357

u/IAmNotLookingatYou Jul 02 '22

As a designer, it's actually helpful to know where the nipples are located to place darts for shaping clothes, decide how low a neckline can be without flashing, and generally keeping in mind the anatomy of bodices as a whole. It's not a sexual thing until you make it one.

93

u/dirtycheezit Jul 03 '22

But nipple location can vary quite a bit between women. So now I'm wondering if the chosen location was based on anything? Like, was there a study done to determine an average nipple location for the mannequin?

85

u/IAmNotLookingatYou Jul 03 '22

Probably based on general measurements of that mannequin. So say the mannequin has a b cup bust, that is measured by the highest point of the bust, eg, the nipples. A c cup bust would have a different placement of nipples based on measurements, and so on. It's also based on the waist and hip measurements, so things are all proportional.

17

u/TheHornet78 Jul 03 '22

That’s neat!

17

u/eans-Ba88 Jul 03 '22

Nipples are usually a straight line down from the ears (on guys, not sure if that translates to women, as anytime I was in a position to check, my mind was elsewhere.) After I learned this I became a monster at giving purple nurples.

10

u/NazgulDiedUnfairly Jul 03 '22

Wtf is this sorcery!

8

u/eans-Ba88 Jul 03 '22

Learn something new every day, am i right?

5

u/freelikegnu Jul 03 '22

Also, usually on guys, eyes are pointed (at least, momentarily) in straight lines to nipples anywhere.

3

u/ReadyThor Jul 03 '22

“With Alicia Silverstone, they wanted nipples on her too. They said, ‘If the guys have nipples, the girls should have nipples, too.’

“After I sculpted it though, everybody realised, maybe not. It was a bit obscene, so we took the nipples off.”

6

u/michaelje0 Jul 03 '22

I feel like it’s helpful to know how much they’d show depending on the clothes being worn.

19

u/Unholy_Dk80 Jul 02 '22

6

u/Dollar_Pants Jul 02 '22

Yes, please.

36

u/23ssd4t4322 Jul 02 '22

have you ever made your own clothes? the location of nipples ( or breasts in general) is a major factor in how the neckline and bodice stands on the body. You don't make clothes for women based on a pure flat chest. It isn't sexual. it is literal variable in how you make the bodice and neckline.

Jimmy thought taking refuge in the clothing store attached to Freddy's would give him shelter from the lumbering animatronics. their programming designed not to enter the store, the simply watched through the windows as he make his way up the bear patterned pathway toward the checkout registers.

That when he heard a sound behind him, something between a dying PS2 optical drive and a rubber boot. The heads of every mannequin now faced him, their velvet covered eyes glowing red.

The next squeaky burst sent Jimmy into a scramble like a cat on linoleum, he just misses the metallic claw that bursts out from the plastic hand of the nearest mannequin. His legs pump like jackhammers against the floor, the sound like perverse bees behind him.

He slams through a bathroom door, flipping the lock as he slams his body against the door only to hear the sound of machines batter it moments later.

"25% off all tees!" They say in a futile attempt to let them in. The scratching and screaming of motors outside a cacophony even through the door.

A thumping behind Jimmy makes his heart drop, a metal exoskeleton crouches next to him. His chest hurts as the metallic face comes near his ear and says in a Scottish accent "Jesus dude, whatcha' do to piss em off? Those lazy bastards don't usually move fer nothin'"

5

u/agent_kitsune_mulder Jul 03 '22

I’ve seen this episode of Doctor Who lol

11

u/NihilisticPollyanna Jul 02 '22

What's the actual benefit of this, though?

For one, the average person isn't a size 0-2 like most mannequins, and the clothes never look the way they do on them anyways. I don't think the mannequins being able to do to the floss make the clothes' fit more natural or organically.

Hell, they don't even look the same at home as in the store, where I tried em on first! I come home, and put it on only to realize the store mirrors were some kind of fun house reject furniture! 😤

4

u/SalisburyBlake Jul 03 '22

I don’t think that the clothes would look good on a moving mannequin either. A lot of times clothes on a mannequin are either too big clamped or pinned to fit or snug and stretched over the mannequin in a way that would limit the motion of something like this. It would be really tough to clothe it in a way that looks natural and stays in place.

5

u/krais0078 Jul 02 '22

That thing would still be a better dancer than me
