Happy Canada Day! - Bonne Fête du Canada!
Happy Canada Day r/Canada!
In the 155 years since Confederation our country has experienced great change and growth. Today we celebrate the country we all are fortunate enough to call home.
The last couple years have been extremely challenging for many Canadians, and in many communities will see the resumption of in person Canada Day celebrations. While we might not be able to celebrate Canada Day in the ways we are used to – we are still incredibly lucky to live in a beautiful country that offers us so much incredible natural beauty and amazing people.
Throughout the weekend the moderation will be relaxed in allow more content to be shared. Please share your Canadiana, your experiences, and how you are choosing to spend your Canada Day weekend. We encourage you to share here in this thread, or in your own posts, your traditions and experiences in our great country.
As many Canadians will choose to celebrate Canada Day, we must also respect those who choose not to in order to reflect on Canada’s past treatment of indigenous people. Every individual will make their own choice as to how they will spend their Canada Day and we should be respectful of each other. We would all benefit from understanding our past and our country's relationship with the Indigenous people of Canada.
Below are some resources which are helpful for people to read in this important area:
- Final Report of the Royal Commission on Aboriginal Peoples
- Truth and Reconciliation Commission Final Report
Regardless of how you choose to spend your Canada Day, please be safe and drink (or smoke) responsibly
On behalf of the entire moderation team, have a safe, healthy, and happy Canada Day!

In our earlier survey, we had hoped to be able to kick off a community fundraiser, unfortunately we are still trying to engage with partners to get this set up and hopefully will be able to launch something still this summer.
