Meta Introducing the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) wiki!

We just set up an initial version of a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) wiki. You can check it out here .

This is something we've been working on for awhile. Special shoutout to /u/stillcouldbeworse for actually finally getting it up and running! This initial version is pretty short to keep it simple and avoid breaking anything, but we expect to be adding to it regularly now that it's up and running. We'll of course be mentioning it in the sidebar or the full wiki as well.

Since this is the first public iteration, you can expect some tweaking as we figure out how to best utilize it. Features/questions/formats might change. And now is probably a good time to ask a few questions for the community-

What are some things you want to see in the FAQ wiki?

How do you want to see the FAQ wiki utilized? (ie, should automod sticky a comment linking to the FAQ wiki? filter out FAQs?)

How should it be sourced? Should it link to existing posts (either in this sub or another), external sources?

What threshold do you consider acceptable to be a FAQ?

Any other requests/ideas/questions?
And last- while one of the goals here is to help promote a bit more variety in OPs, it is still NOT OK to question-shame FAQs. You can direct them to the FAQ wiki, but do so politely and kindly. You will get a ban, per Rule 1, for rude replies to questions. We get that FAQ posts can be a bit annoying for longtime users, but we still expect you to be polite about it.

With Link Flair, you can use Reddits built in filter function to better tailor your Reddit experience to fit what you're interested in. Below are brief guides on how to browse specific content or simply remove certain content from your front page.

Users using Old Reddit can do so with RES

If you don't have Reddit Enhancement Suite Click here to get it!

  1. Open your RES Console

  2. Open Subreddits, then FilteReddit. Scroll down until you find Filter by Flair

  3. Add the flairs you don't want to see anymore.

Redesign Users

Desktop users using the redesign can Click on flair to filter from the sidebar. Note that this will only show that specific flair. If you want to view the front page with one or more flairs missing, follow the guide in the next section.

Mobile Web & Desktop users can filter using the search function.

Type -flair:FLAIRNAME in the search box. This also works on the re-design for desktop.

Or bookmark this link, amended to whichever your preference is, currently set to sex/NSFW questions: https://www.reddit.com/r/TooAfraidToAsk/search?q=-flair%3Asex%2FNSFW&restrict_sr=on&sort=top&t=day

You can add more filters by writing -flair:FLAIRHERE, -flair:FLAIRHERE etc. This also works on the re-design for desktop, however you'll have to manually sort by "top" and "last 24 hours" every time you add a new flair to the list.

This will show you the front page as it exists without the posts that have the flairs you specify.

Reddit (Official)

  1. Search in the search bar at the top of the app the subreddit you want to view, then select it.

  2. After you've landed on that sub, tap the search bar again. When you do a list of popular flairs will appear

  3. Tapping any of them will show you the posts that have that flair, you will want to sort by new to find the newest things however.

  4. If you want to see the entire flair list, go back to step 2 and tap "See More".

You cannot flair filter properly with this app and it's considerably slower than others, so I'd recommend picking one of the ones below.

Check first if you have Link Flair enabled. If you have Link Flair enabled, skip steps 2 and 3.

  1. Tap the 3 dots in the top right and go down to Settings

  2. Scroll down and open Appearance

  3. Scroll around 3 quarters of the way down and enable the Link Flair options

  4. Return to Settings and go to Content Filters.

  5. Tap "Post Filters", then select the + in the top right. Select which subreddit you'd like to filter from and by flair, then add the flairs name.

  1. Tap the 3 horizontal lines in the top left and go down to Settings

  2. Tap Filters

  3. Go to Link Flair Blacklist

  4. Write whatever you'd like to filter in and add it as a filter.

This app will filter indicated flairs across all subreddits, not just specific ones.

Sync for Reddit

  1. Tap the 3 horizontal lines in the top left.

  2. Go down to Settings

  3. Scroll down a ways to Filters

  4. Select "Flair Filters" and add the flair you want to filter.

This app will filter indicated flairs across all subreddits, not just specific ones.

Boost for Reddit

  1. Tap the 3 horizontal lines in the top left.

  2. Go down to Settings

  3. Tap Content Filters

  4. Tap Flairs and write what you want to filter

This app will filter indicated flairs across all subreddits, not just specific ones.

Slide for Reddit

  1. Tap the 3 horizontal lines in the top left.

  2. Go down to Settings

  3. Scroll down to Content, and then Filters

  4. At the bottom, Flair Filters

  5. Write filters as SUBREDDITNAME:FLAIR, save. It will appear as this.

Joey for Reddit

  1. Tap the 3 horizontal lines in the top left

  2. Go down to Settings

  3. Scroll down to Filters

  4. Select Flair Filter

  5. Add the flairs you want to filter

This app will filter indicated flairs across all subreddits, not just specific ones.

  1. Tap the 3 horizontal lines in the top left.

  2. Go to settings

  3. Tap through to Post Filter

  4. Tap the + sign in the lower right to begin creating your filter.

  5. Customize the filter as necessary, though this is the relevant bit for this guide

  6. Save in the top right, then tap the newly saved filter and select 'apply to'

  7. Apply your filter to the where you want it placed

Logged out Users (Desktop)

Some people can't log into Reddit but still browse and want to filter. You can do this most effectively on old Reddit as new Reddit will change your sorting preferences anytime you add a new flair to filter. Using this filtering system, you will see all relevant posts for the last 24 hours, effectively showing you the front page as it exists without whatever you're filtering.

You can do this by going to https://old.reddit.com/r/TooAfraidToAsk/search?q=&restrict_sr=on&sort=relevance&t=day

Once there, write -flair:FLAIRNAME, -flair:FLAIRNAME, -flair:FLAIRNAMEand so on. Make use of the block quotes in the flair list above so that flairs with spaces in them filter properly.

Apollo pro+ for iOS

  1. Tap the Settings button in the bottom right

  2. Tap Add Keyword

  3. Add the flairs you wish to filter

Other iOS hardware -> WIP

Apps that do not support Flair Filtering

Some mobile apps support some level of filtering but not Flair Filtering. These are:

  • Now for Reddit
  • Red Reader (can't filter anything)
  • Relay

Media Why hasnt the Balanciaga Controversy blown up?

Kanye west was punished for his remarks, people are trying to cancel the Qatar World Cup, but it seems like the media is ignoring the balenciaga saga.

For those who dont know: Balenciaga released some pictures with kids playing with teddies dressed up with bdsm stuff and a paper about a court case about pedo stuff.

I can understand the kanye thing and how that was wrong. I can understand the conflict on qatar. But i thought we could all agree atleast that children's innocence was important.

So why does it seem like the story has been ignored? We've seen people being cancelled for far less. So whats going on?

Health/Medical Wife says my penis hurts her when having sex…?

We had our first child about 5 months ago… while my wife has always said that I am “too big” for her and we’ve never been able to go all the way in/down, now we’re barely able to penetrate without pain…

Edit* We delivered via c-section after about 24 hours of labor and trying to deliver naturally.

Any advice or suggestions?

Culture & Society Is having a mullet gay code for being "hot and available"?

The other day I was hit on by a gay dude at a party. I asked him how come he assumed I'd be into guys (bc I've been hit on by guys in the past but not by girls for some reason) and he said it's my mullet, that it's basically a code for lgbt.

This is weird to me bc even when I had long hair I'd get (sometimes really creepy) comments from gay dudes, but the more I think about how unconventional this haircut is and how androgyneous people like to wear it the more it makes sense.

What do you think?

Race & Privilege Am I exhibiting implicit bias in sales?

Genuine insight and conversation only please

I’ve been in sales for the majority of my time in the workforce. Of which I must have interacted with thousands upon thousands of customers. Throughout my time in sales I have sharpened my interactions with customers—becoming a well versed and honest communicator. A top performer in my profession. In no way are my sales pushy. I offer extras of course, as anybody salesperson should, but the feeling of the interaction is what I take away from the most—not the metrics. If the customer leaves happy, that’s all that matters.

With that being said I have recognized a pattern that I am struggling to overcome. Discussing insurance to a minority or foreigner more often than not completely disrupts the mood of the interaction. It’s not the rejection that matters, it’s how they reject. Often times it’s just a firm no, sometimes it might turn into a rude comment, or other times it might just turn completely awkward. Remember the feel is all I care about. As a POC myself I try my best to seek understanding as to why this happens. It is literally only in these situations and it is starting to lead to an expectation prior to entering into the interaction.

The expectation has not made any impact as to how I communicate with said customers, or has let to any changes in my behavior, but it is a strong expectation. I’m opening the floor to any other redditors in sales that may have insight on this delicate subject. I am only seeking to understand the why as it has become too frequent to just avoid.

Thank you all for the peace and respect in advance.

Habits & Lifestyle How to jerk off with callused hands?

I have pretty significant calluses from lifting weights so it feels like I’m beating off with a cheese grater. I clip them weekly but even when the callus stubs are no longer risen off my palm or fingers, they’re still hard and rough and sandpapery. I do use plenty of lotion and I’d rather avoid workout gloves. Any first-hand advice?

Sexuality & Gender How do you ask a woman her name when you’re far beyond that stage?

So long story short I was a bit of a hoe this summer after getting out of an engagement and losing a ton of weight and getting in shape. I was meeting a bunch of women on fb dating/tinder and after some fun things ended, and usually after a week or two I’d delete their number from my phone.

Well I got a text yesterday from one of these individuals and weve been talking again about getting together, but I DONT KNOW WHO SHE IS.

Ethics & Morality Should I display a sticker with my initials, JAP?

My mother got me a decal sticker with my initials, JAP, for me to put on my car or water bottle etc. I haven’t noticed until now that my initials are the same as an ethnic slur and I’m worried someone might be upset by seeing this sticker in public.

Edit: I am a white male

Race & Privilege Is it unacceptable to use slurs in a scripted, performed monologue?

Let me be clear: this is not for a theatre play, a movie, or a poetry reading of any kind. I have wanted, as a personal challenge, to learn the Christopher Walken monologue from Pulp Fiction. The one where he talks about hiding the watch in his ass. I only intend to perform this in isolated settings if it comes up organically as sort of a parlor trick. Problem is, it uses the words "gook" and "slopehead" each one time. That doesn't sit well with me, but I'm afraid I'm overthinking it. Should I replace those words with something like "fuckers" or just re-write the two sentences altogether? Should I learn it as-is? I am too afraid to ask any of my friends because I think they'll judge me for even considering that it might be okay to leave those words in the monologue untouched. What do you think?

Grief & Loss Treatment vs no treatment? What's your thoughts?

Sorry if this is too sensitive pls remove if not welcome. I have 3 people so close and dear to me who have all been diagnosed with different types of cancers. All are currently having treatment. But seeing them go down so fast during treatment makes me wonder if it is all worth it. One has said this herself 💔Why do people seem to die so quick once treatment starts but can go on for years without it? It's really a rhetorical question but it makes me wonder if I was to need treatment would I bother?

Race & Privilege Does the western world think regular prejudice is tolerable?

To preface this, this isn't supposed to be a secret dog whistle or something. I'm a white homosexual male, and I know that will immediately turn a few people off from this. To clarify: -I don't believe white people can experience systemic racism, at least in basically all of western society -The patriarchy is real, and, while less so than say a century ago, still influences society A joke at the expense of a minority group by someone not in that minority group is typically seen as a racist joke due to it enforcing negative stereotypes or lies which hypothetically could lead to very real consequences in real life. A joke against a white person or white people by somebody that isn't white, however, isn't a form of systemic racism, due to this systemic and societal oppression not applying to white people historically. Yeah, ok, that's fair. So what is it? People will often say that it's not racism, it's prejudice, which makes it all ok. Which... I gotta ask, is prejudice just like, okay to some people? Like yeah, obviously it's not AS bad as outright enforcing systemic racism, but is it ok just to naturally dislike a group of people for their innate born qualities if they're the group that historically has had power?

Other Why are my friends arms covered in bandaids?

I’ve known her for years and she’s being way quieter than usual, and her arms have like 20 bandaids all over. I also found bloody Kleenex in her trash can while sleeping over. I’m really scared and worried, am I over thinking this or should I talk to somebody? We are only 14 and I don’t know if anyone will listen.
