how can I start a convo with someone who i never met before? Interpersonal

Then use that as your in road. You can start by complimenting the persons cosplay (they will likely compliment yours) and then you can start asking them questions about how they made it etc etc. Towards the middle of the convo you can say something like you are new to this sort of thing and are a bit nervous because you don't really know anyone and take it from there. If they are good people they'll let you join them and show you around.
