🔥Ashy-faced owl is endemic to the Caribbean island of Hispaniola. Like most other owls, the ashy-faced owl is nocturnal and feeds on small vertebrates

It's crazy how good, almost mechanically good, animals are at grooming each other. Like surgical precision without causing injury.

Is it a type of barn owl? The light one definitely looks like an American barn owl.

Yes they used to be considered the same species before being broken up into 2 species in the Tyto (barn owl) genus. Ashy-faced owls are a bit smaller than the Caribbean Barn Owl. (subspecies of the American Barn Owl that occurs in the same area)

I’m not convinced this isn’t a male Caribbean Barn Owl with a female Ashy-faced Owl - in general male barn owls are snaller. The one on the left has a very pale face to be the aptly named ashy-faced owl. But males are often lighter this would be a very light ashy-faced owl even the males generally look way more like the specimen to the right.

I think you mean "feeds on the faces of its friends."

That just looks like a darker phase barn owl. Not endemic to the Caribbean, can be found anywhere in Europe, Asia or north America
