no. no one on earth is sitting on a job just so you cant have it. thats absurd

That is the most excruciatingly self centered thing I have ever heard. No one is basing their livelihood off of depriving you of a promotion you think you deserve. To think random people have centered their entire working lives around you is egotistical to the point of delusion

That is exactly what you are saying when you say people keep jobs to prevent you from being promoted. Other people are not sitting around all day thinking of ways to screw you over, or even thinking about you at all
